I like to start the week on a happy note so I’m going to spread a little joy with a giveaway thanks to the wonderful Emily of Popcorn & Crocodiles! If you have been following me over on Instagram (if you haven’t come and join me) then you will have seen me play around with this wonderful notebook. I know that I have piqued the interest of a few fellow crafters so I thought we could take a look at it in closer detail. (Disclosure: Emily sent me a wonderful notebook for free but it was for me to enjoy. I decided to share it with all of you on my own.)
More than just a Notebook!
Let me start by saying this is more than just a notebook. Emily is a knitter and has designed a high-quality notebook for knitters. I was really surprised by the quality of the pages. The pages in this notebook are made from card which ensures that they won’t rip or tear with prolonged use or when you pull it in and out of your project bag repeatedly. I love the colour scheme and the designs that Emily chose to decorate the notebook with giving it a cheerful and playful appearance which is what we all want out of a craft notebook right?
Emily has included plastic pockets for patterns and different coloured sections so that you can be working on a few projects in one go (I’m not sure Emily could even include enough pockets for me!) and ensuring that you can keep the pattern and your personal notes all in one place. One of my favourite details are the yarn tags that you can use to pop on your leftover yarn because I always have bits floating around. There are sections for writing, grid paper, needle gauge, ruler and a beautiful and handy colour wheel all included. My only downside would be a guidance page from Emily on how to get the best out of your notebook.
I am really into my bullet journal and goal trackers at the moment and Emily has included pages to record your to-do list, monthly reminders and goals, wish lists of yarns, patterns or accessories and a place for you to mark down all your crafty achievements, The pages are smooth and are better suited to pens then pencils but I haven’t tried my mechanical writing pencil yet.

Because words can’t ever be enough here is a flip through of the notebook shot in the morning light from my cottage table. Enjoy!

Congratulations Donna! You’ve won a Adventures in Yarn notebook, which I’ll email you about separately and get your postal details for. Amongst all the fabulous confessions, I loved your attitude of just working through the complicated parts of a pattern as you get to them! I’m at the other end of the spectrum, and unless I really want the finished article I can be a bit conservative with my pattern choices. I’m sure this helps you learn much faster! Thanks so much everyone for joining in, I really enjoyed reading your comments (and gathering a few tips!!) Definitely a couple of main themes about disguising/ hiding the stash, and some genuine yarn appreciation, just loving the look and feel of yarn! Thanks also for the nice comments about the notebook, they are very much appreciated.

My yarn confession :// is that until yesterday i hadnt knit anything for almost a month. D: How awful D: I had quite a few wips on the go and all of them sorta went wrong so ive had to frog all of my first jumper and re knit a sock for the fifth time :/ i got the flu and just lost all motivation towards everything. I decided to work the second sock toe up instead and the jmper top down to switch things up and i have my mojo back. 😀
If someone wants to give me some yarn eg, leftovers or they are destashing, I just can’t say no, even if I don’t much like it.
My yarn confession is that I keep my yarn on display in my sitting room but I constantly rearrange it, either according to colour, weight, origin, fibre content, etc. It’s all in the effort to inspire me when I’m not sure what my next project should be. It has cured me of constantly moving around the furniture though. 🙂
My yarn confession? I have purchased yarn because it resembled my doggo’s fur. Like there isn’t enough of his fur in my knitting already???
My yarn confession is that I enjoy buying yarn just as much as I like knitting it, so my stash is much larger than it should be!! 🙈
My yarn confession is that I don’t know how much yarn I have!
Trying to think of a secret yarn confession as that notebook is so fab! How about – my 4 year old loves my ‘string’ so I buy him his own balls of cotton in Tiger so that he won’t interfere with ‘my’ balls of string?!
Hello! My confession is that I never read through a pattern before I start knitting. If I did, I’d come across something that seems too hard or too time-consuming and I wouldn’t even begin. This way, when I get to a tricky bit, I just have to perservere!
I have three Victorian birdcages filled with different yarns to add a burst of color to my room that I can change out with other yarns hidden in my yarn vault aka closet.
I’m only a newbie yarn addict but I am just OBSESSED with super chunky yarns!!! Like obsessed…. this notebook is so cool x
I like to buy yarn and treat it like an object of art. It is like many of you wrote, the smell, the squishing, only the look at it are so amazing and inspiring. And some yarn will never be used for a cast on.
My secret yarn confession is I fairly often, when having a re-organise/moth detecting session, find yarn I have managed to keep secret EVEN FROM MYSELF. Mind you, it’s always a lovely surprise, and a cheaper thrill than going to the yarn shop (again).
My confession is that I love to wind yarn using my swift and winder; and hope my friends will let me wind their skeins also.
If it’s acrylic yarn it wouldn’t cause me grief, unless you’re using quality fibers, then Horrors!
I have 4 cakes of beautiful purple Knitfield Donegal Aran Bainin stacked on the table beside my bed. I like to squish and sniff them. I’d miss them if I knitted with them!
I still haven’t knit with the yarn I got at my first Rhinebeck (2009)
Sometimes, I knit things with the intention of frogging them and then throw away the yarn! I find it therapeutic to work out my internal ennui through my needles and fiber but often don’t want the yarn hanging around after because it symbolizes all the negativity I worked through. So, into the trash bin it goes! Most crafters are VERY upset at the idea of me throwing away my yarn, so I tend to keep this to myself. 🙂
It’s really difficult for me to decide on yarn for a project…and sometimes I buy several types before I decide…which leads to lots of yarn with no specific purpose.
I confess…I have a yarn room in my house! My kids all want to sleep in with me, so I turned one of their rooms into stash storage. We’re all happy with the situation! X
So beautiful! Last night I mentioned to my husband that I wish I had started a knitting journal this year, instead of just using Ravelry…. such a pretty, personal space to keep notes, treasures and ideas! My secret confession is that my husband is the sweetest yarn enabler & always brings home “business trip yarn” that’s locally sourced, spun and/or dyed in the area where he travels. #spoiled #truelove This would make a lovely craft diary for 2018… Thanks for a fun giveaway!
I keep 8 balls of Zealand kiwi possum yarn in a fruit bowl because it looks so pretty. I can’t bring myself to knit with it. It’s getting dusty 🙈 🥝
I too will confess to having a yarnrobe. And there isn’t any room left for clothes in there. I’d love a notebook like this to help keep track of it all!
I love to buy yarn even if I don’t know what I am going to make, I love to squeeze it & smell it , I love the sound of the paper band that goes around the yarn when you squeeze it
I do all my yarn shopping on Wednesdays to sneek it into the house while the hubby is at work and I’m at home “parenting” .
But my neighbor keeps catching me, he laughs at me but I reckon he’s going to use it for blackmail some day.
I buy yarn because it’s beautiful, with absolutely no idea what I’ll use it for…if ever.
The dining room cupboard is where the good yarn is isn’t it? 😉
Ohhh! Good question!! My secret is I have yarn stashed in my wardrobe, I have yarn stashed in my big press in my studio and I have a smaller stash growing in the dining room cupboard….. ssssh! Don’t tell 🤣
😂😂 oh Clare I love this!
O I need this in my life…..my secret yarn confession at the moment is…..that I tell himself I am in lots of swaps and people send me random presents….(they are really my late night purchases) those are the ones he sees anyway
Yes it is! It’s not one or the other. I always seem to know more knitters than spinners or crocheters so I’m glad you mentioned it.
Hmmm, it’s perhaps a little similar to others but I think my confession would be that quite often I prefer the yarn before i have made something out of it. It’s just so beautiful in its skein form…burying your nose in it and inhaling deeply is a must for all yarn!!! I’m so glad to spot this book is equally weighted towards crocheters from your flick through, i’m not a knitter…yet 😉
We all need good friends like that!
Oooo I have never been to Leibzig! Post images in your stories and tag me so I can join in too
My secret yarn confession is, I have more yarn in my stash than I will be able to knit up in my lifetime. Hey ho, more will probably be added when I visit the Leibzig yarn festival next months…
I always tease my closest knitting friend about her stash of luxurious single skeins, because she never makes anything with them, but I’m secretly just jealous they are not in my stash. (I’m also very lucky she puts up with my teasing, she is a very good friend)
It is really beautiful!
ROFL ah they can ask but we buy it anyway! 🙂
oh my gosh Hannah me too! I have skeins of Sea Silk, alpaca and silk blends that I hold just because they are beautiful!
It counts!
ok I *have* to ask….How big is your locker in work?
Mt secret yarn confession… my husband has no idea about my secret yarn stash in my locker at work : )
Hmm, a secret yarn confession? Well I’m a strictly monogamous knitter and a terrible yarn snob but neither of these are really secret 😉
My secret yarn confession. I have yarn I don’t think I’ll ever knit because I love how the skein looks.
Hiding yarn in a shoe box under the bed, in fact, several shoe/boot boxes, my son asked me not to buy any more yarn Mam until you have used up all you already have!
That looks like a very well designed notebook, kudos to the designer, and pretty too
