When it comes to sharing Kindle books, it can be a bit of a hassle. Now I’m not saying you should share your reads with family, but if you want to, then here are some steps that you can follow so you can make some popcorn, sit back, and watch their face as they get to that page:

Sharing Kindle Books with Friends

As of August 2022, you can no longer share Kindle books with friends. Boo. Amazon sees these friends as potential customers and so wants them to purchase their own copy of the book. You can still send recommendations to your friends by highlighting the book you want to share and clicking the 3 dot share icon at the top which will allow you to share the link to the book via social media and email and your friends can start reading the book for free to see if they like it.

“A book is a gift you can open again and again.”

– Garrison Keillor

Sharing Kindle Books with Your Household.

However, if you want to share books within your family/ household, you can do this with an Amazon Family account by creating a family library. Each Amazon Household can have up to two adults, four teens, and four children. To set this up just follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Amazon account.
  2. Click Accounts & Lists on the top menu
  3. Click Manage your content and devices
  4. Choose Preferences
  5. Then choose to add an adult or child to your household.

From here, you can navigate the menu and titles to add books to specific libraries from your household or choose to share all titles.

To choose specific titles, just click Manage Content & Devices > Content and choose the book you want to share and then the person/library you want to share it with/to. Then all you have to do is click Make Changes and the content will be added to their library. Woo-hoo!
